This time, we are asking you to share with us your unique and creative solutions, strategies, and ideas on tackling the climate crisis.
Know the problems: Before coming up with solutions, it is imperative to have a thorough understanding of the various problems and impacts of climate change. Climate change is a complex problem, affecting our world at political, environmental, social, cultural, and economic levels. Breaking down this wide issue of climate change into smaller 'sub-problems' can help us deal with the crisis better. Check out the following resources:
Choose a specific problem: Select a particular problem or impact of climate change that resonates with you. For example, you may choose to write about language loss in your community in relation to the climate crisis.
Brainstorm: Once you have a deep understanding of the problem, it is time to brainstorm and come up with a unique method to tackle that problem or make it less severe or intense.
Here are some things to keep in mind while writing:
Traditional solutions: You may choose to highlight traditional sustainable practices or techniques used by your community and how they can be used in the modern world. You can dive into ancient texts and historical records to explore how people from the past took care of the environment and use these as inspiration for your solutions. For example, the Harappans from the Indus Valley Civilisation that flourished in modern-day Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India had a sophisticated waste management system.
Use your imagination and be creative: Stretch your imagination and come up with new solutions to old problems. For instance, you may invent your own source of renewable energy or develop an economic model that strikes a balance between environmental conservation and economic growth. Don’t worry if your ideas are practical or not. Just let your imagination run wild.
Institutions and stakeholders: Think about how you will involve different stakeholders and institutions in your strategy or solution. To illustrate, describe how the government can be included in the implementation of your strategy, or how schools and colleges or other institutions such as the economy or family will be impacted by your solution.
Connecting disciplines: Real-world problems often have interdisciplinary solutions that connect knowledge from different disciplines. For inspiration, read this to find out what philosophy and science can do about climate change, and this to explore the role of machine learning in climate action. Try to integrate knowledge and concepts from various disciplines in your work.
